We have photographs of Squire George, Millissa, Thomas, Lewis, Elijah, Jeremiah, & Peter."On Sunday September 15, 1968 in the FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM newspaper there was an article titled "Colonial Family to Have Reunion" by Damon Veach. This article told about the Sparkman reunion to be held that year on Saturday Septemvber 21rst in SparkmanTown, near Doyle, Tennessee. In the article Mr. Veach reported that the Sparkman family lived in Surry County, Virginia, as early as 1616. The county was not formed until 1652, but the area was settled much earlier than that. The actual colonization of the American continent began with the arrival of three boatloads of English immigrants in May of 1607 on the northeast shore of the James River in what is now the current state of Virginia.
Mr. Veach goes on to state that from Virginia, the family of Sparkman branched off to other parts of North Carolina, in the Gates County area. Then about 1790 they began moving towards the east, to Grainger County, Tennessee, then to White, Franklin & Williamson counties. Much later members of this family migrated into Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma, Alabama, and of course Texas. Those that went into Texas were here before statehood, but the exact date is not known.
