I came across your Web site totally by accident. I lived near Sparkman's garage in Pecos, Texas for a while. As a matter of fact, my father operated a filling station next door. Trey Esparza, who was one of the best friends I ever had, is pictured in one of your old photographs. I distinctly remember the Sparkman boys tearing up and down the street in their hotrods (Chevy Nova...or was it a Chevelle). God bless all of you!

I loved your website!!!! You have accumulated a lot of information. Thanks for sharing. I had always heard that I/we were related to the former U.S. Senator and Vice Presidential candidate but I never new how. (I think I saw that he is the great grandson of Thomas Bryant Sparkman 1803-1872). Squire George is my great-great-great grandfather. My father grew up and white county. The last couple of years I have gone to the family reunion at Camp Clements in Van Buren County. We visited some of the old graveyards in the area. It is remarkable the amount of information that is available. If you have any, could I burden you for copies of some of the information from John Sparkman, or William? Those last will and testaments are interesting. Again, thanks for sharing!!!! Name: Jon Sparkman Email: jasead9871@yahoo.com Address: Cleveland, Tennessee Category: Web site

While doing a Google search on "Pyote Air Base" I came across your website. My father-in-law and his brother, Don and Leon Dulin, lived at Pyote with their Dad...a Civilian contractor during the years that, apparently, Mr. Sparkman did. Mid to late 40's. Don graduated from Pyote High School. We all still live in West Texas.... Don, my Father in law, still goes to the Pyote HS reunion.....along with the 4 others from his class!! Here's something I wrote today on my daily Blog [website]....please feel free to leave a comment........ http://www.biggolddog.com/2005_03_01_streamarch#111107810599051577 If you'd like to get in touch with Don Dulin his email address is: PDulin3508@aol.com Wallace Craig, Midland "The average dog is a nicer person, than the average person" http://www.biggolddog.com

My father, James Edward Rivers was an aircraft machinist at Pyote Rattlesnake Bomber Base during this period. My parents divorced in 1950, dad left, but my mother Mildred P. Rivers and my brother, James Ju'Ward Rivers and I remained there until Dec 1953 final deactivation date. Mother was a master parachute rigger there; she transferred to Fort Hood Army Base from Pyote, and remained in active status until 1981. She is 88 years of age, living here in Llano near me. My brother is living in Ohio. He just spent a week with us, after attending the class of 1955 MHS reunion. Those are wonderful memories and we kids did not realize that we were a part of such important history!! I remember that about 6 of us signed off on the Enola Gay as we closed down the base. Of course, alll that was erased with the paintovers, etc. Address: Llano, Texas Category: Web site Name: Ma'Joyce River Swope Email: mjs@centex.net

Hello, I was googling information about Pecos Texas (where I was raised and came upon this web site. I remember Sparkmans garage well. I'm also suprised to see that Mr. Sparkmans stepgrandson was Armando Esparza III (Trey) I ment Trey in high School and we work together for a short period of time in the oilfield business (GSI) right after H.S. He is also related to me by marraige, somewhat. My wifes older brother Carlos Rubio married Trey mom (Yolanda), sister (Susie). I'm sorry to say that Trey passed away in 2005. You've done a great job of keeping your fathers memory alive. Company: ELCAN Optical Tech. Reading some great stories and comments. I also have fond memories of Pyote. Like my brother Rodney Sparkman Jr., I too remember the long straight highways of West Texas and the imposing presence of the old Rattle Snake Air Force base. I can remember taking a stroll around the old hangars with my dad. You could just see the past in his eyes and the memories he was reliving. All this happened a short time before his passing. I would like to thank all the men and women that served in military and civilian positions at the base, and for the sacrifice they gave for us to live in this great country. Jim Sparkman, Alabama.

Hi, Just wanted you to know I have an old land deed from chester county pennsylvania.... it is a deed of 200 acres sold to James Purtle and his wife Jane from Richard, john, and Thomas Penn, who I believe were the sons of William Penn. I was just looking at your ancestry and it had a James Purtle from Pennsylvania and a Question mark by his supposed wife jane. So they may be one in the same.Oh, the land deed is dated 1747.

Your website is wonderful. My mother's family are Sparkmans and I am researching this family branch. My grandfather is Gerald York Sparkman, born in 1927 to Melvin Sparkman and Ella Hocket. His grandfather was James Fredrick Sparkman, from somewhere in Eastern Tennessee. If you have any information regarding this, I would love to see it. Thank you for providing this wonderful source and helping us to appreciate our heritage.

Rodney the first picture was taken in 1940.  He was 21.  Right after Melvin was born, he just got out of the hospital.  He had the mumps and they went down on him.  We moved to Pecos in 1946.  I was two.  We lived at the airbase there.  He worked at the air base in Pyote, Texas. love you, Louise.

Hey, you did a fantastic job on your web site.  We enjoyed reading the eulogy on your mom, Frances and the pictures.

I'm sure this web site is a work in progress.  What I'd like to see you do is add some genealogical information, starting with Pantaleon.  I haven't done any research, thinking "Oh, Rod is doing that."  It may be that there are no clear-cut answers, but I'd still like to get your opinion on where and how the Acosta and Sanchez families originated.

Again, congratulations on a job well done.

Ernest and Concha
