Anecdotes

The power of illustrative anecdotes often lies not in how well they present reality, but in how well they reflect the core beliefs of their audience.

'Are you talking about me?'

A special request from Krista Lynn Chavez, Christmas 2008:

"Dear Sparkman/Esparza Family,

"I hope that you are all well.  I know that the last couple of years have been difficult for all of us especially with Grandma's passing not being that long ago.  I know that times have been hard to try and understand that life she once lived is no longer.  I am proud to be one of her many granddaughters and I am proud to know the wonderful lives she touched in her time.  As one of many who experienced the same, I can say that she had a huge heart and love was just one of the many attributes she had."

"I know that we all have special memories that stick out in our mind from time to time when we think of her, whether it be funny or emotional.  These memories are some that not all of us know about.  I can remember a time, it was Christmas, and I think I had to have been 12.  Uncle Jesse had brought all the kids toys, that year we had whoopee cushions.  (Our parents probably hated that we got those, ha ha ha).  Well, I remember sitting in the living room and Aunt Pat, was sitting in a yellow plastic chair, she was sitting there entertaining everyone by telling us that the necklace grandma had was a spy/detective eye glass.  I am sure you all can remember that necklace.  It was gold; it had a clear glass circle piece that had some angel surrounding it.  Everyone was laughing in the room and the next thing you hear is grandma coming in, asking 'what did you say? Are you talking about me?'  She then stormed off back into the back room, she was not too happy about that !"

"This is just one story out of millions that we have all individually had with her at one point in time.  I want to start something and I hope that all of you take part in it, not just for the sake of me writing this to you, but for the many memories that we retain in our hearts and minds, that we can share with the rest of our family.  For Christmas, I want to put together a chain letter booklet that everyone, including grandkids, can have to remember all the times that we have spent with grandma in our own little way."

"Love always,

Grandma's Grand-daughter, Krista Lynn Chavez"
